Who we are
Hard work shouldn’t mean overwork.
Since 1923, Working Animals International has been dedicated to transforming the lives of working animals and supporting the people who depend on them.
Working animals are at the heart of daily life in many low-income countries – an essential support. When these animals are healthy and cared for, families are more secure, and communities are better able to work as they should.
That’s why we work alongside partners worldwide to increase access to essential veterinary treatment and campaign for better welfare standards. We also support owners as they develop the knowledge and skills to look after their animals with confidence and care – while inspiring the next generation to do the same.
We’re here to make sure these animals are seen, protected and properly cared for – and that their welfare is never overlooked again. We do this with the support of people who believe, like we do, that working animals deserve better.
Together, we’re building a world where working animals are healthy and valued, communities are stronger and livelihoods are more secure.

Our Mission
Our mission is to transform the welfare of working animals in a world where animals, people and the environment are respected and thrive.
Transforming welfare
Healthy animals.
Strong communities.
Sustainable futures.
Healthy animals
We're creating a world where working animals are healthy and valued. We work with partners to build local skills, so more working animals receive regular care, support and treatment when they need it.
Strong communities
We're supporting owners and children, so they can develop the knowledge and skills to look after the working animals they depend on with confidence and care.
Sustainable futures
Through advocacy, influence, and education, weˇre promoting long-term solutions that protect working animals, inspire compassion, and build a future where working animals and communities thrive together.
Our History
In 1923, Kate Hosali and her daughter Nina set off for North Africa as tourists; it was a journey that would last a lifetime. As they travelled through the countryside, passing bustling souks, remote communities and rural farms, they were inspired by much of what they saw. But they were also struck by the awful sight of donkeys, mules and camels – malnourished, weak, buckling under the weight of huge loads; suffering with wounds inflicted by poorly fitting harnesses.
