Lameness is one of the most common and painful issues that working animals face, but with professional hoof care, it can often be prevented. We host training workshops for local farriers in the countries where we work, to further develop their skills and ensure they have the tools needed to keep hooves healthy and animals moving comfortably. At our Boghé animal health & welfare centre in Mauritania, Nechwan the horse arrived with misshapen, overgrown hooves. The professionally trained farrier trimmed Nechwan’s hooves so they were balanced and even, allowing the horse to walk normally and preventing long term lameness. Nechwan’s owner was invited to return for routine hoof checks and trimming, ensuring ongoing care.
