For more than a century, we have been dedicated to helping the working donkeys, horses, mules, camels and oxen that support their communities across the world. Every day, these animals carry out essential tasks, such as carrying food and water, and transporting people to school, work and hospital.

As the need for our work has grown across countries and cultures, we’ve learned that the name SPANA, the name we have held since 1923, doesn’t always explain – at first glance – what we do our who we help.

That’s why we are changing our name to Working Animals International – a name that immediately communicates our purpose and our commitment to transforming the lives of working animals worldwide.

The change follows careful consultation with supporters, donors, colleagues and partners, and we’re proud to say that our founders’ family supports these changes, too. Our new name isn’t about leaving our history behind, it’s about making our mission easier to understand, recognise and support.

Underneath our new name, logo and look we are still the same charity with the same mission – dedicated to transforming the welfare of working animals around the world.

Impossible to Overlook

You may have seen our new brand campaign Impossible to Overlook across television and social media. The campaign spotlights the essential roles working animals play in their communities across the world.

Every day working animals carrying out critical tasks, such as delivering food and water, ploughing fields and transporting people to school and hospital. Yet, despite their contribution, their welfare is often overlooked.

At Working Animals International, we work with a network of local partners to build a world where working animals are healthy, valued and impossible to overlook.

Photography exhibition

To celebrate our new brand launch, we have partnered with FUJIFILM House of Photography to showcase the reality of working animals and their owners through the work of photographers from Morocco, India, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe.

The free exhibition will be held at the Fujifilm House of Photography in Covent Garden, London, from 22 to 26 April and is open to the public to attend.

Can’t make it to the exhibition? You can see a selection of images on our social media channels and on our Impossible to Overlook exhibition webpage.
